Tired and Run Down

I’m tired. Ever been there? Exhausted beyond description? That’s me and that is my wife and family right now. If you don’t know me, I am a Type A, laid back personality. Say what???? Listen, I love to have my list and get things accomplished, but I have also in the last few years learned to enjoy just sitting and listening to nature while my dog plays his version of catch and then run around for a few minutes like a nut job before bringing the ball back to do it all over again.

Life is full and I am reminded to “not grow weary in doing good.” Yeah, about that….it is not that we are weary with the doing good part. We love our ministry, we love our church, we love the people we work with, we love our children, our neighborhood but, frankly, we would also love a night of dreamless, refreshing sleep.

So here is something that I am going to do that goes against everything in my type A mentality. I am going to stop some things over the next few months. I will likely come to the end of the year and some goals will not be accomplished. I will likely be considered by some to not live up to their expectations. I will likely be the cause (unintentionally) of making people upset or angry with me. Why? Choices. It always comes down to choices. I choose to have an abundant life. I do not believe that Jesus meant for an abundant life to be so full that you lose joy (that would be counter to a Spirit-filled life.) I choose to take some time to reflect, refresh and renew.

Then what? I do not need to know about tomorrow, for I already know the One who holds tomorrow. Jesus said it has enough worries of its own. I choose to run to Jesus and let Him set the day’s agenda.
